EVANGELIZATION AND OUTREACH
MONTHLY CALENDAR
ADULT CATECHISM
Two groups of parishioners meet every other week to strengthen their faith through a study of the teachings of the Church using the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults. One Group meets on alternating Tuesdays at 2:00 P.M. and the other in the opposing Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. Sister Mary Catherine is the leader for this group.
DISCIPLES IN MISSION
Small Groups of parishioners meet during Lent in the Parish Center or private homes. Days and times vary with each group. They use a printed guide and the Bible to read and discuss the weekend’s scriptures and decide on small actions to increase their spirituality and to bring charity to others.
EVANGELIZATION COMMITTEE
Our parishioners who serve on the Evangelization Committee plan and carry out activities to encourage people to better participate actively in the sacramental life of the Church. Every other month and at special liturgical times such as Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter, the committee mails the Church Bulletin to people who don’t regularly attend Mass, The evangelization committee strives first to increase the faith of the faithful and to attract others to the joy of sharing the word of Jesus within our worship-filled community. If you are interested in joining the evangelization committee, please call Tom Pugh or Ed Vogelsang through the Parish Office at 410.242.2292.
HOME VISITORS
Many parishioners are visiting parishioners confined to home or nursing homes and distribute communion to those unable to attend Mass. Contact Mary Murphy through the Parish Office at 410.242.2292, if you know of someone who needs a home visitor from Ascension Parish.
SOCIAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE
The members of the Social Concerns Committee seek to carry Christ’s love to others by meeting monthly to plan and perform activities that minister to needy members of the community. Activities include collecting food donations and delivering food baskets to families, and supporting the Southwest Emergency Services (S.W.E.S.). For more information, please contact Michele Smardon through the Parish Office at 410.242.2292.
MONTHLY FOOD COLLECTION
(Loaves and Fishes)
On the third Sunday of each month, Ascension Parishioners bring nonperishable food items to the church vestibule to aid the less fortunate in the local area (zip code 21227). During most months, the food is delivered to the Southwest Emergency Services (S.W.E.S.). The church bulletin identifies specific types of foods or toiletry items needed for a particular month.
OUR DAILY BREAD
Each month, volunteers from Ascension Parish prepare and/or deliver casseroles for Our Daily Bread, a Catholic Charities soup kitchen in Baltimore City that serves hot meals for their clients in need. To participate in this ministry, please call Yvonne Loverde through the Parish Office at 410.242.2292.
POOR BOX
The parishioners of Ascension Parish contribute to the church’s poor boxes to respond in Christian charity to families and individuals in a crisis in the 21227 zip-code area. Good portions of funds are given to Southwest Emergency Services (S.W.E.S.).
