WHO WE ARE

INSPIRED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD
WE, the Church of the Ascension, proclaim and live the GOOD NEWS of Salvation!

WE value each person’s worth as a child of God and heir of Heaven.

WE, with eyes wide open and filled with faith, live and worship to build community around the table of the Lord.

WE work to achieve the spiritual, educational, psychological and physical growth that helps us attain salvation.

WE proclaim the message of Christ with such enthusiasm and zeal that others might be motivated to grow in love for God and neighbor.

WE especially emphasize religious education through continued support of the parish school and effective religious education programs for children, youth and adults.

WE highly value and appreciate the importance of Christian family life and support it with appropriate programs such as marriage and family counseling.

WE evangelize to draws ourselves closer to Christ and to bring back those who have drifted away.

WE are aware of and constantly respond to the current social and economic issues and their moral implications especially poverty and prejudice.

WE promote and encourage vocations to the priesthood, religious life and lay ministry.

WE participate in and promote ecumenical dialogue with the religious organizations in the Arbutus, Halethorpe, Highfield, Relay and Wynnewood communities.

WE BELIEVE—
In one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
In one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
  Eternally begotten of the Father,
  God from God, Light from Light,
  True God from true God,
  Begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
  Through him all things were made.
  For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven:
  By the power of the Holy Spirit
He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
  For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
  He suffered, died, and was buried.
  On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of Scriptures;
  He ascended into heaven
  and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead;
  and his kingdom will have no end.

WE BELIEVE—
  In the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life
  Who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
  With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
  He has spoken through the prophets.

WE BELIEVE—
  In one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

WE ACKNOWLEDGE—
  One baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

WE LOOK FOR—
  The resurrection of the dead.
  And the life of the world to come.
