PARISH ACTIVITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS
BINGO
Ascension School enhances Christian education in the school by sponsoring an evening of entertainment for the community on the third Friday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Admission includes a dinner.
BLOOD DRIVE
Twice a year, the Knights of Columbus sponsor an American Red Cross blood donor drive, held on Sunday mornings in Brewer Hall. The church bulletin publishes the information several weeks in advance of the blood drive, and sign-up sheets are posted on the bulletin board in the vestibule of the church.
CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS (Court of Our Lady of Victory)
The Catholic Daughters of America are women of the parish who share Christian friendship, strive for personal sanctity and also perform spiritual and temporal good works. They meet in Brewer Hall on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Among its activities, the Court has raised money through various fund-raisers; attend an annual Memorial Mass (offered on the fourth Tuesday of November) for the deceased members of the Court, honors all priests during Priest Appreciation Week in June. To become a member of the Catholic Daughters, you must be a practicing Catholic and be 18 years or older. To join, contact Theresa Cusic, the Regent, through the Parish Office at 410-242-2292.
DAISY SCOUTS / BROWNIE SCOUTS / JUNIOR GIRL SCOUTS
Ascension’s Daisy Scouts meet at Ascension School on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Girls in kindergarten are eligible to be daisy scouts. Ascension’s Brownie Scouts meet at Ascension School on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. Girls in grades 1 through 3 are eligible to be brownie scouts. Ascension’s Junior Girl Scouts meet at Ascension School on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. Girls in grades 4 through 6 are eligible to be girl scouts. HALETHORPE BOY SCOUT TROOP 764
While this troop of Scouting is not a parish organization, many of our youth belong to Boy Scout Troop 764, which meets at the Halethorpe/Relay United Methodist Church, Ridge and Park Avenues, every Monday at 7:00 p.m. Some of the adult leaders of the troop are Ascension parishioners. They sponsor monthly camping trips at various locations along with wide range of wholesome activities. Boys in school grades 6 through 12 are eligible to be boy scouts. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS (KOC)
Fr. Francis J. Flanigan Council (named after our first Pastor) is a Catholic fraternal organization for Catholic men (18 years of age and older) and is open to any adult male member of the Parish. Members help on many projects that benefit our parish, school and community. They frequently cooperate with the Men’s Club in various fundraisers and projects. When a member joins the Knights, he and his family have the opportunity to participate in the Order’s insurance program. MEN’S CLUB
The Men’s Club pursues Christian fellowship and solidarity of Ascension Parish’s men over age 21. The Club holds its business and social meeting on the third Thursday of each month from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in Brewer Hall. Light food and refreshments are furnished after the meeting. The Men’s Club also raises money to help the parish. With the assistance of the parishioners, parents and others, they have raised over $73,000 since 1991. SENIORS OF ASCENSION PARISH (S.O.A.P.)
S.O.A.P. provides social activities and Christian fellowship for the seniors of the parish. The seniors meet on the third Monday of the month for a brown-bag lunch with refreshments and desserts provided. Normally a speaker comes to speak on some topic of interest, such as health insurance, security in the home, history, current events in the community, taxes, etc. At Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day, and in June, the seniors have luncheons paid for by the organization. SODALITY (of the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY)
Being primarily a spiritual organization, the ladies of the Sodality of Ascension Parish gather monthly to celebrate the Eucharist with a special homily by their chaplain, Fr. Parker. Afterwards they hold a business and planning meeting, and frequently participate in discussions of a religious nature or view a religious film. They meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the parish center. You are invited to join the Sodality by contacting the Parish Office at 410-242-2292.
